Astrid opened the zipper of her backpack searching for her favorite pen. She checked to make sure all of her books were inside the larger pack as she mentally checked off each class ahead of her. Astrid's thoughts were shifted to close quickly when she realized she wasn't alone. James stood in the doorway of her dorm room that was opened from her roommate. He leaned against the frame with ease and smiled. Astrid visibly tensed. He hadn't been around for a few days and she almost had forgotten the uncomfortable feeling she regained when James would speak to her. She wanted to back up but she knew there was nowhere to go. She was in the corner of her room, he was blocking the only exit. He approached her, striding into her face quite close. He gestured at her lower half as he spoke.
"What are you going to do about this?" He demanded.
"Please go back to the door." She timidly got out.
"You expect me to believe that you are just going to fucking do this shit to me, Astrid? You think you can treat me like this and no one will fucking care? You are fucking delusional! Everyone knows that you are a fucking-" He continued on as she interjected firmly.
"Please, go to the fucking door. Get out of my face."
He turned, walked towards the door but then stopped to face her again. His tone and language had switched entirely from when he had been in the doorway. He was used to intimidating her to the point that Astrid couldn't even gather herself before he started in again.
"You are a fucking waste and no one likes you. Derek and Sam both think you are a stupid slut."
Astrid closed her eyes and gathered strength.
"Please, go to the fucking door." She said so calmly and quietly he almost didn't hear her. James had started for the door again.
Astrid's eyes remained closed until she heard her roommate call into the room.
"Astrid, what the fuck is he doing here?" Sara had returned from the shower in a towel feeling quite annoyed. Sara never liked James and it was not uncommon for Astrid's mood to shift from hate to loneliness quickly after James would be absent.
"Oh, hi Sara." James replied, adding honey to his tone when he realized there was an audience.
Astrid's face sank and Sara understood immediately. He wasn't invited. Very much not invited into their room. Sara got between Astrid and James and suggested he leave so she could get dressed.
"Oh, of course, no problem." James had always laid it on thick when others were around. He didn't want anyone else to see who he really was to Astrid. Even though Sara saw through it, he still put up a guise.
When the door shut, Sara dressed quietly and let Astrid sit and take the interaction at full value.
"I need to move." Astrid managed to get out.
"We all do." Sara quipped.
